Angry Conservative Tools

I have said before that I don't like it when the Green Party seems to "Conservative bash" but sometimes even I can't resist.

The Young Greens have created a new postcard that has great graphics, good, concise and relevant policy points and a catchy slogan:  Your Parents F*cked Up the Planet.

So there is a conservative blog named Small Dead Animals, which says something about their character I'm sure.  As it turns out the readers of Small Dead Animals are actually quite sensitive and offend very easily.  They have asked their readers to visit youth.greenparty.ca and comment on the postcard.

Here are my favorites (language warning!):

Someone named FuckOff Lizzy The Loser who's email is apparently Fuckyou@hotmail.com says:

Fucking loser sheep! How dare the green party indulge in foul language for political purposes, especially directed at youth.

Wow we use one censored f-word.  He/She (knowing the conservatives it's most likely a he) used three uncensored f-words and one is used directly towards an individual.  So FuckOff Lizzy The Loser is easily offended by foul language.  The hypocrisy is staggering. Here's another:

Hey.... I'm one of those parents and I was wondering how much energy does it take to brew beer or distill alcohol, or. produce make-up, rubbers, and x- boxes ? hmmm or cart your sorry hypocritical asses back and forth from university.Lets not even touch hair straighteners, ipods, iphones etc etc.. Lucky your parents gave birth to you (don't you make CO2?), it's only to bad they didn't instill the value of integrity, as your pushing false science and your full of it.

I guess it's good to know what conservatives think of young people.  He/She also think we're simple minded. Here's the best, after saying that it might be hate speech the next angry conservative says:

Wonder what a muslim would think reading that ?

At first I thought that must be a miss fire.  I mean when frothing at the mouth with ignorant rage one can sometimes say something they don't mean.  But in an attempt to be thorough I checked.

Me: The Young Greens have a postcard that someone said is hate speech and suggested was anti-Muslim?

Muslim Friend: Is it?

Me: I don't think so but I figured I'd ask you.

Muslim Friend: What does it say?

Me: Your parents f'd up the planet?

Muslim Friend:  Like Muslim parents?

Me: Oh no, no, all parents, technically grand parents too.

Muslim Friend: I don't think it's racist

Me: Oh good.

Muslim Friend: Now, Your Parents f'd up the planet because they are Muslims would be racist.

Me: Well yeah, of course.

Muslim Friend: Thank Alah you didn't go with that.

Muslim Friend and I Laugh

Last one:

Only idiots vote for the green party...and only complete morons are members of it.

Ah you have to love the family value conservatives who berate young people on the internet.

In tha clear

Noticed that you pre-empt with the "I don't agree with conservative bashing for the sake of conservative bashing" disclaimer (I realize that I paraphrased that a lot, but I think that's the spirit of what you generally say), a viewpoint I happen to share with you.  I would say that you're completely safe in this case, however, as a) you're not doing anything to put a negative spin on these comments, and b) these commenters aren't the Conservative Party, can't be assumed to be affiliated with the Conservative Party, but almost certainly largely vote for the Conservative Party.  No harm, no foul on that front.

As for the campaign itself, I don't have a problem with one "f*ck" in there.  Not in the slightest.  Now, I'm not a parent, but lets face the facts here.  A 9-year-old can walk into most music stores and buy an album with an "explicit lyrics" warning on it.  The artist recorded on that album may not only swear, but also sing about some less-than-wholesome values - drugs, alcohol, gratuitous violence, sex, masoginism, racist slurs, all to sound of a catchy beat (and no, while "gangsta rap" is the easiest one to single out, it's certainly not the only genre, and yes, I do enjoy listening to some rap music sometimes).  Video games, television, movies... there's plenty of content kids can be exposed to that isn't really productive.  Throwing a "f*ck" in an ad campaign, or some informational materials, to get people (kids and adults alike) to take notice to an importaint isssue, to the state of the planet, is productive.  And I think we all know, that the policy points , slogan, and artwork were presented as a conservative party material via Small Dead Animals, the exact same people wouldn't be outraged.

And as far as the "Wonder what a muslim would think reading that ?" commenter goes... you don't need to worry.  Trust that if it offends muslims (just like if it offended any other religion, or race, or really any other group at all) they will speak up for themselves.  Getting offended on behalf of other people that don't seem to be, themselves, offended, is an idiotic stance that the Christian Right has been monopolizing for far too long.

Sorry Christian Right, I didn't mean that as a mudsling.

Sincerely,

Mic that is perhaps the best comment this blog has received.  Thank you.
